          Guidelines for the scholarship Program
          Grand Gedeh Association in the America, Inc.

I. Eligibility:

   The following persons will qualify for the GGAA Scholarship Program. 
     
A.High school seniors or graduates hailing from Grand Gedeh County who have gained admission to credible university, college, or technical institutions in Liberia will be considered.
 
B. Student from Grand Gedeh who enrolled in a credible college, university or technical school in Liberia or those who have dropped out of school due to financial reasons.

C.The scholarship will be based mainly on academic achievement, but students having special needs will be assessed on a case by case. No student on probation will qualify for the scholarship.

D.Student on other scholarships or who are receiving any other form of financial aid will not qualify for the GGAA, Inc Scholarship. 

II. Application:
    
A.The scholarship committee will make application forms available to students two months prior to the end of the academic year. The forms must be completed and submitted to the local scholarship committee two weeks after the end of the school year.

B.The applicants must submit along with their completed application forms their transcripts, one page write/type of their career objectives, and two letters of recommendation.

III. Coverage:

A.The number of scholarships given will be evenly distributed over the districts. If there are no qualified candidates from any of the districts in a given year, the slot(s) will be held vacant until qualified candidates from that district are found. 
B.The number of scholarships given will depend on fund availability 
C.The scholarship will include tuition, books, plus a small stipend for supplies. The committee shall decide the amount of the stipend annually based on the fund available.

D.The stipends will be paid directly to the students

E.The scholarship will not be retroactive.



IV. Implementation:

A.The GGAA Education Assistance Program Committee will establish local committee in Liberia to coordinate the scholarship program and other local projects that the committee may under take.

B.The local committee will do the initial screening of candidates and submit the names of semi-finalist with their credential to the Education and Training Committee for the final selection.

C.The names of those selected will then be sent to the schools and the Local Scholarship committees.

D.The selected students will sign a legal document which will stipulate that they must return to Grand Gedeh County to serve for two years upon graduation.
E.The institutions will bill GGAA, Inc for direct payment.

F.The recipients are responsible to submit their grade sheets to the E&T local committee every semester. The committee has the right to request for duplicate copies of students’ records.

G.The scholarship year is from September 1, to August 31 every year.

V. Renewal:

A.The scholarship will be renewable annually for as long as the student meets the course load and GPA requirements.

B. The student must be enrolled in school full time (12 to 15 credit hours/semesters) and maintain a GPA of at lest 2.5.

C.No students may remain on the scholarship for more then eight academic semesters for students in a regular four-year program and ten semesters for students in a five-year program. The semesters will be cumulative from date of initial scholarship.

      Mandatory Placement Contract (MPC)
   (For provision of scholarship to students of Grand Gedeh county, R.L)
 
 
This contract entered into by and between Grand Gedeh Association in the Americas, Inc. (Education & Training committee); hereafter referred to as Principal and Mr/Mrs/Ms: ____ ____________________hereafter referred to as Recipient. Hereby:
 
  WITNESSETH
 
Count 1: That in consideration of the funds being provided by the Principal for the  minimum duration of two (2) or  maximum duration Four (4) consecutive years in order for the recipient to complete his/her prescribed courses of studies; leading to obtaining his/her specialization or degree in such area as _______________________________. Also, please specify (Major) and (minor) if applicable _______________________at the University of Liberia, Monrovia, Liberia; or any other accredited higher institution of learning in Liberia. The recipient is required and accepts to maintain a grade point average of B consistently while carrying full semester credits (as determined by the institution). The Principal reserves the right and authority to revoke this contract in case that the recipient fails to maintain the required grade point average for two (2) consecutive periods.
 
Count 2: As condition to be awarded a scholarship, the recipient must agree to a Mandatory Placement not necessarily his/her choice in any part of Grand Gedeh County upon graduation. The placement will be determined by the Principal in conjunction with the county and government authorities.
 
Count 3: That the awarding of scholarships to citizens of Grand Gedeh County must be done on the basis of equal distribution; provided that the students in each district, (i.e.  Tchien, Konobo and Gbarzon) had met the guidelines stipulated above.

Count 4: In the event that the recipient refuses or otherwise fails to take up an assignment in accordance with the terms and conditions thereto on his/her Mandatory Placement Contract and thereby accepts employment elsewhere, be it within or outside of Grand Gedeh County, he/she will be made to refund to the Principal, not to the county, fees associated with educating him or her and other expenses. Furthermore, the Liberian Government will be informed of the breach of contract for other appropriate action to be taken.
 
Count 5: It is hereby further agreed that beside the regular salary earned no recipient assigned to teach and/ or train should benefit or receive any form of pay or gratuity from student(s) or trainee(s) directly or indirectly. Any violation of this provision will result in prosecution for receiving money or value under false pretense.
 
This Mandatory Placement Contract must be governed in accordance with national and international Contractual Law.  Any Contrary Notwithstanding;
